Talk Story, the Hawaiian way of passing wisdom

Just like an iceberg, there’s so much power beneath the surface waiting to be recognized. My signature talk “The Irrefutable Competence of Our Leadership” does not just teach outdated theories on leadership and empowerment. Maduli, a Roosevelt High graduate, spent two decades in the Continental U.S., reporting on the entertainment industry for MTV, NBC’s Access Hollywood, and Billboard Live, interviewing celebrities like George Clooney, Alicia Keys and the one and only Oprah. Kelce cohosts “New Heights,” a podcast with his brother, Travis, that is the third-ranked sports podcast on Apple Podcasts. Kelce’s foray into late night is just the latest of several media ventures. Featuring a country twang and personal lyrics, You Only Tell Me You Love Me When You’re Drunk was a highlight of Pet Shop Boys’ ‘Nightlife’. Those craving more of this same glorious introspection were left hanging after Hollis quietly disbanded Talk Talk following the release of Laughing jeffgere.com Stock. In fact, many long-term fans believed he had gone to ground for good in the early 90s, and were shocked when he resurfaced, in 1998, with his lone, self-titled solo album. Proof that Hollis was serious about realising his artistic vision arrived with Talk Talk’s third album, The Colour Of Spring.

To the extent the stories resonate with others and groups coalesce to listen, our communities become defined. The “sharing” of a common legacy and the inspiration to re-tell them in a modern setting and even to go out and create new stories make the community alive. McKenna’s love of storytelling and connecting with others continues as she launches “Talk Story” season 2 in October 2020 as well as curating and hosting specials.

Best known as the vocalist and primary sonic architect behind Talk Talk’s timeless, genre-defying albums The Colour Of Spring, Spirit Of Eden and Laughing Stock, he increasingly chose silence and solitude during his autumn years. However, while Hollis – who succumbed to cancer, aged 64, in February 2019 – withdrew from the public eye following the release of his lone, self-titled solo album in 1998, he wasn’t always so taciturn. Indeed, when, as a university student, he first seriously considered music as a career, Hollis had no qualms about shooting straight at the heart of the machine. This talk affirms the truth for already inspired women and pours into women who might feel overwhelmed, undervalued, lost, or unsure.

The show celebrates all things entertainment and shines a light on the many talented people who come from the islands in music, fashion, art, hula and the Hawaiian culture. Native Hawaiians are the indigenous people who migrated from other Polynesian islands to inhabit the islands of Hawaii.
